CROW BUTTE HAS A LEGEND....
Long ago a band of Crow Indians were returning from a hunting expedition and out of nowhere a party of Sioux started to surround the Crows. The Crows were able to take refuge upon the Butte, which only had one side that was accessible. All night the Sioux guarded one pass and decided to not ascend until morning. The Crows tore the blankets into ropes by tying together their blankets & used their lariat ropes of their ponies to help them descend over the cliffs at night. The next day the Crow warriors surrounded the Sioux, who were still watching the empty mountain. As the story goes, the Crow took many scalps. Crow Butte's history is recounted in many different in many books that you can purchase in this area.
From Creekside B&B, you will drive 9 miles Northwest to: Crawford, Nebraska Creekside B&B is a member of the Crawford Chamber of Commerce . The 9-hole municipal Legend Buttes Golf Course has been voted as one of the best 9-hole golf courses in Nebraska. As you are driving West of the Golf Course, you will notice Crawford's panorama of limestone buttes.
On the left side of this picture, the buttes are called Seven Sisters and the butte on the far right side of this picture is called Saddlerock.
Many rock hunters come to this area seeking to find Fairburn and Nebraska Blue Agate. Nebraska, by legislative order in 1967, named Blue chalcedony, also referred to as Blue Agate, their state gemstone and this gemstone can only be found in the Northwest Nebraska area.
From Creekside B&B, you will drive 12 miles West to: Fort Robinson State Park has been ranked in the top 25 state parks in the US. This State Park was for 70 years the most important military outpost in this region.
Activities include Fort Robinson Trailside Museum, buffalo stew cookouts, jeep rides, horseback riding, kayak and tubing, and drives or hikes through spectacular scenery. Fort Robinson 36th Western and Wildlife Art Show opens on July 1 - July 4th. Ph# 308-665-2900.
Post Playhouse located at the entrance of Fort Robinson State Park work together with Chadron State College in presenting Broadway style musicals that show 6 days of the week all summer long.

![]() This is an area that shows different erosion rates on sediment layers deposited by ancient volcanoes. Many wildflowers that you find here are also at Creekside B&B. Travel a one-mile interpretive trail to discover a prehistoric fossil freeway. ![]() In this spectacular Badlands area, there are a variety of wildlife that you can see, such as golden eagles, prairie falcons, antelope, mule and whitetail deer, sharp-tailed grouse and a variety of songbirds.
From Creekside B&B, you will drive 26.9 miles Northwest to: The Hudson Meng Bison Bonebed Education & Research Center. Visitors center allows viewing of archeologists as they excavate artifacts and bison bones. They are also open on Saturdays and will give you demonstrations, such as the instructor will have a bison robe and have you feel how soft the leather is and how hard the leather is on the buffalo bag. She will show you that the bag was full of utensils made of bones, etc. She will let you make key chains with leather string and pretty beads. From Creekside B&B, you will drive 32 miles Northeast to Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center
in Chadron, Nebraska, which explores the life and works of Mari Sandoz and the center also displays exhibits which explains the rich history and culture of the High Plains region at Chadron State College.
The Dawes County Historical Museum has exhibits that include a general store, a one-room schoolhouse, a pioneer cabin and memorabilis from the 1893 Chadron to Chicago Horse Race. PH: 308-432-4999. MUSEUM OF THE FUR TRADE, CHADRON, NE
From Creekside B&B, you will drive 35 miles Northeast to: Museum of the Fur Trade,
which is 3 miles East of Chadron, Nebraska on Highway 20. It is dedicated to the history of the Fur Trade Mountain Man exhibit, firearm collection, gift shop, recreated Bordeaux Trading Post. This museum is very interesting and it can take 1-4 hours to see everything.

HOT SPRINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA From Creekside B&B, you will drive 70 miles North to: the Black Hills & Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota, which is the world's largest research museum and the scientists believe as many as 100 Mammoths had perished at this site. Hot Springs, South Dakota is location where the world's largest museum that explains how the scientists believe that nearly 100 mammouths perished.
